Australian cricketer Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket after Australia’s semi-final loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Smith, the 35-year-old played his 170th and final ODI match, scoring 73 runs in his last innings as the captain.
Initially debuting as a spin-bowling all-rounder in 2010, Smith emerges as one of the world’s premier batsmen. Smith’s ODI career has been outstanding, scoring 5,800 runs at an average of 43.28 with 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries. He also played a significant role in Australia’s World Cup victories in 2015 and 2023.
Although Smith is retiring from ODIs, he remains dedicated to Test cricket and Twenty20 Internationals. He further voiced zeal for forthcoming Test series, including the World Test Championship Final and the Ashes series against England.
